The threat of lone attackers or terrorists is growing. The use of lockdown in emergency situations is gaining favour, particularly in large public buildings such as schools, prisons, hospitals, or any building where people’s lives could be at risk from intruders, or from unrest inside the building.
Lockdown is a process of automatically closing and locking multiple doors at once using an access control system. In a partial lockdown, all doors leading outside are locked. This keeps a building’s occupants safe from anyone attempting to enter a building. In a full lockdown, all doors are locked and people must stay where they are. This is particularly useful on the rare occasions where there is already a threat inside the building.
