We love a networking event here at Fireco! There’s obvious value in maintaining established relationships, and it’s exciting to bring like-minded people together to forge new connections. This is why we like to hold get-togethers regularly. Whether it’s a pub event or somewhere grander, getting away from the desk and making contacts in a relaxed environment can work wonders.
After the success of our first Friends of Fireco event at Sir John Soane’s museum in 2021, we were keen to host another flagship event in a place of historical interest.
This time around, we decided on The Foundling Museum as our venue of choice. It has a fascinating history and we were impressed with the space inside, which is great for browsing around and mingling.
The Foundling opened in 2004 and is situated in the grounds of the old hospital in Bloomsbury, which was established in 1739. Thomas Coram, a philanthropist, had created the hospital to care for babies at risk of abandonment. The artist William Hogarth and the composer George Frideric Handel played a big part in realising Coram’s vision. Later, they transformed the hospital into the UK’s first public art gallery.
The Foundling Collections include paintings, drawings, sculptures, furniture and more. The museum holds major works of art created and donated by Hogarth and his fellows. Alongside are contemporary works by artists such as Michael Craig-Martin CBE, Grayson Perry CBE, Yinka Shonibare CBE, and Tracey Emin CBE. Its Gerald Coke Handel Collection is a major research resource for study of the composer and his contemporaries. More than 14,000 items include manuscripts, printed music, books, artworks, sound recordings and ephemera.
During the evening, there was a real buzz about the place and a great sense of engagement. Canapes and refreshments were provided by Bovingdons, who did a superb job in keeping everyone topped up. We were also impressed with Hana, the Events Manager at the Foundling, and how welcoming and organised she and her team were.
“Many thanks to Fireco for putting on another great networking event. It was once again in a stunning backdrop with friends of the fire safety family. Great to see so many FIA members there.” Ian Moore, Chief Executive Officer at Fire Industry Association
“The Fireco crew hosted another of their fantastic friends of Fireco events, this time in the beautiful Foundling Museum. The history behind the museum is fascinating and a visit is highly recommended. As usual the hosts were fantastic. Thank you for making us all so welcome. I love these guys and I love their products.” John Field, Head of Safety, Health and Environment at Imperial College, London
A very enjoyable evening in great company, which leaves us looking forward to future events!
