THE PROBLEM
Heavy, outdated fire doors needed updating
“We had some very old, heavy fire doors without glass panels,” explains Joel Carter, Head of Safeguarding and Participation at ESTEEM. “The building looked very dated, and we were not meeting accessibility and safeguarding requirements without these glass panels. Many of the young adults who access ESTEEM are autistic or have sensory needs. They found the old-style fire doors slammed shut very loudly and this was causing real challenges for them to safely engage at ESTEEM.”

“We already had a close working relationship with Fireco, since they initially contacted us to become involved as a charity partner,” continues Joel. “Their staff have volunteered their free time to help decorate our premises and have raised money for us. We’ve always had a great relationship and we know they are a professional and trusted company.
From further discussions, we found out we could utilise their fire door services and fire door hardware solutions.
After an inspection and consultation, the fire doors were installed and we’re very happy with the results. We really didn’t think anyone would be able to do one of the doors as it is such an unusual shape, but they fitted it no problem at all.”
Following on from the installation, Fireco returned to fine-tune a door closer, addressing feedback from young adults who noticed that it was still shutting a little loudly. The engineer was attentive to their input on-site and worked to make the adjustment effectively.
