Fresh air and free access at the Albert Hotel
“Now we can keep our fire doors open, safe in the knowledge they will close when the alarm sounds.”
The Albert Hotel
The Albert Hotel is a long-established nine-bedroom hotel in Peterhead, Scotland. A Victorian house, it recently undertook extensive refurbishment to maintain the traditional architecture. Its reputation is built on great value, comfort, and excellent food in its ever-popular restaurant.
Following a fire inspection, Terry Moran, owner of the Albert Hotel, searched for an unobtrusive and compact product that would keep fire doors open safely without affecting the building’s beautiful architecture: “Our hotel is a Victorian house, so we sought a solution that would comply with regulations, but not spoil the hotel’s unique character.”
Terry looked for a product which would maintain compliance without affecting the decor. He said: “We opted for Dorgard following a recommendation from our fire inspector. We chose the white units as our doors are painted white so they won’t stand out.”
Dorgard is a fire door retainer that holds fire doors open at any angle and releases them to close when the alarm sounds.
- A practical and safe solution which doesn’t affect the Victorian architecture
- Greater access throughout the building
- Reassurance for staff that fire doors will close when the alarm sounds
- Improved ventilation
- Compliance with fire regulations.
“Now we can keep our fire doors open, safe in the knowledge they will close when the alarm sounds. Dorgard improves ventilation as open doors allow in fresh air, which is great when it’s warmer. Nobody likes a closed door, so it helps the hotel feel even more welcoming. It also really helps our staff carrying trays as they don’t have to struggle to open doors and our guests can move around easily.“
Complying with the relevant British and European standards, Dorgard is an ideal solution to the common problem of wedged open fire doors.
